Community-Wide Contest Announced to Name “Our Town’s Football Team”

ERIE, PA (January 5, 2010) – A ‘storm is coming’ with ‘blizzard’ potential and an adrenaline-‘pulse’ that is going to “punish’ the competition. Erie Professional Football, Inc. announces a community-wide contest to name the new professional arena football team.

The new ownership group announced in December that a new team name will replace the RiverRats to best reflect Erie and its hometown pride. The contenders are:

Erie Storm
Erie Blizzard
The Pulse of Erie
The Erie Punishers

Bill Stafford, ownership group spokesperson elaborated, “The new team’s mantra has been ‘our town, our team’. What better way to successfully introduce the new team than with a team name chosen by the community. It’s the perfect combination - hometown heroes/players … hometown pride … hometown ‘ownership’ of the team by the community with the team being named by the community.”

Anyone can participate by visiting www.ErieProfessionalFootball.com and casting a vote for our town’s new team name. Or votes can be mailed to Erie Professional Football, Inc. 2047 West 12th Street; Erie, PA 16505. The deadline to vote is January 12. Our town’s team name will be announced Thursday, January 14, 2010.

Professional Football Continues in Erie Under New Ownership
December 29, 2009 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) Erie RiverRats

Erie RiverRats ERIE, PA (December 29, 2009) - Erie Professional Football, Inc. (EPFI), a new ownership group, has been formed to ensure a solid future for professional football in Erie, PA. The ownership group will be led by two local investors with substantial Erie area ties, Jeff Plyler, Plyler Overhead Door Company, and Bill Stafford, Subway of Edinboro. Stafford will lead the group as the ownership team spokesperson. Jeff Hauser, who brought the franchise to Erie in 2007, has joined the ownership group and will assist with financial and operations management. Other local owners are also involved.

EPFI has a new operating lease with the Tullio Arena and a franchise contract with the AIFA for the return of professional football to Erie in 2010. EPFI will be releasing additional information in the next few weeks including: player signings, training camp information, cheerleader tryouts and the 2010 season schedule. In addition, EPFI will be sharing more information regarding the renaming of the team, to best reflect Erie and its hometown pride.

EPFI's vision is to secure the best talent representation to give the community a family-centered venue to rally around and demonstrate its hometown pride and love of the game. According to Bill Stafford, ownership group spokesperson, "We've been busy! Our team mantra has been `our town, our team' all decisions are being made with the community in mind. We hope to promote, support, and develop a winning team whose role in the community will be to encourage the forward movement of our city's economic development. Professional football will definitely be an asset to the increased activity in the downtown area, and, in fact, pull from the region for attendance and stimulation of our local economy - planned activities include community appearances, children's camps and more! With the support of the community and the dedication of the new ownership group, there are no limits to where we can take this thing!"
